Research cooperation with KSU in relation to AAMI/UL 2800 standard

On 4th February 2016 Gdansk University of technology and Kansas State University signed the Research Cooperation Agreement to investigate the potential of NOR-STA system to support assurance cases of cooperating medical devices.

This work will be carried out in relation to the AAMI/UL standard which is presently under development. In particular, the focus will be on safe integration of medical devices (e.g. infusion pumps) in the context of MD-IV (Medical Device Virtual Integration).

AAMI/UL 2800 is intended to provide a set of safety and security requirements that support component safety claims in the context of system safety claims, related to multi-vendor, plug-and-play interoperability of components assembled within an architectural framework and ecosphere designed to satisfy the declared system safety objectives

AAMI the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, is a nonprofit organization founded in 1967. It is a diverse community of nearly 7,000 healthcare technology professionals supporting the healthcare community in the development, management, and use of safe and effective medical technology.

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) an American worldwide safety consulting and certification company. UL employs more than 10 000 professionals and provides safety-related certification, validation, testing, inspection, auditing, advising and training services in 104 countries.

Kansas State University is a public university founded in 1863 in Manhattan (Kansas, USA). It employs more than 1,400 scientific workers.

The Department of Computing and Information Sciences conducts research among others in the field of safety and security of systems and medical devices.
